Our Team
Charlie Redd, a North Carolina native, began his career in professional cooking at Outback Steakhouse in the ‘90s. After graduating from the CIA, he trained around the country with many James Beard award-winning chefs. Arriving in Boston in 2000, Charlie molded his passion in the kitchens of Boston’s best restaurants. Charlie opened his own restaurant, Redd’s in Rozzie’s, in Roslindale in 2011 and then opened Dragon Pizza in Somerville in 2018.
In the early 2000s, Charlie met and became housemates with Doug Sherman, a Medford native and Berklee College of Music graduate. Doug spent a decade working in the nonprofit sector with Citizen Schools in Boston, where he helped transition inner-city 8th graders to high school and led gang prevention initiatives in Lowell. He thereafter transitioned to the hospitality industry, serving as day manager at Sligo Pub for over seven years before becoming bar manager at the world-renowned rock venue, The Middle East Restaurant & Nightclub in Cambridge. Doug is also a musician who previously played in local award-winning funk band Superhoney and currently plays in Boston rock band Gozu.

Bridget Zerner, a Maryland native, was first trained in hospitality by the Texas Roadhouse in her college days, then shipped north to Boston in 2004 to attend Boston College Law School during which she was a server at nearby O’Hara’s Food & Spirits in Newton. She then entered the full-time practice of law for seventeen years, primarily in civil litigation with a focus in fraud disputes in jurisdictions across the country. Bridget was recognized by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as one of their Lawyers of the Year in 2023. During her lawyering years, Bridget traveled the Boston music scene where she met and connected with Doug.
In 2020, Doug (then at Sligo Pub) reconnected with Charlie (at Dragon Pizza) to create a successful outdoor mini-restaurant partnership to help the two businesses survive the Covid-19 pandemic. These three then decided to join forces to open a new neighborhood bar and restaurant, settling on the site of the former Rudy’s Café in Teele Square, a place Doug had patronized often as a teenager and which the group holds as a special spot for the community. The team is working to continue the legacy of a cozy gathering place for locals and travelers alike.
